"From Boondock Bards, 1966/67"

The Poems on this page were collected by myself while in Vietnam in 1966/67. They were printed weekly in the Pacific Edition, Stars and Stripes Newspaper. They were written by the men in the field, and the folks at home. They tell it like it was, honest feelings from the heart. In all cases where it is known, the author will be listed.

The poem will be changed weekly, so come by next week for a different poem.

This Weeks Poem

"Mail Call"

Mail call's over, you hear a sigh,
As I sit and wonder why,
There was no mail for me today.

Maybe tomorrow, I hope an pray.
I wait so long just to hear,
From the one I love so dear.

While I'm in this faraway land,
              I mis that loving hand.
              Has she found another?
              Maybe it's my kid brother.

              While I'm over here,
              He's home, sipping beer.
But, the day will come when,
I'll be home again, and he'll be here.

              And, with a sigh,
Sit on this spot and wonder why.
