Received from Tom Ducker.

Tom says he was assigned to the 361st Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron at Phu Cat as a Navigator/Ops Controller in 1970-71.

The 361st was my first operational assignment and I couldn't have asked for a better beginning. I remember my roommate often reminded me that, among other things, he had more time in the latrine than I had in the AF. He was probably right! However, as I recall, the unit was in transition as the more senior flyers were being replaced with guys like me. In fact, by the time I had been in country six months, I believe nearly all the officer crew members were Capt or Lt. I also recall that most of the pilots preceding me were either returned or reassigned to SAC and they were not happy about it. I was reassigned to MAC and C-141s at Charleston AFB and was fortunate to have a wonderful and rewarding 26 year career. I retired in 1995 and returned to Charleston, SC. While at Phu Cat, I also worked as an Ops Controller and lived in the trailers with Bruce Mac, probably the wildest person I've known, and Dave Brooks, my sane roommate. I believe LtCol Tallman was the CC for most of my tour and I believe LtCol (Col) Ted Mace was the Deputy/DO for some portion of my assignment. How time dims the memory, I guess I really need to find my year book.

Received from Jerry G. Allen

Jerry Says he was assigned to 362 TEWS, 1 January - 28 December 1971, barracks Gunfighter Village behind BX, mamason "Ben". Assigned as Crew Chief of tail number AN 208 "Playboy."

After Vietnam assigned to 3205th Maint-Supply Group for Special Armament and Development in Training Management at Eglin AFB, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. While in the Group, I was the first to implement the Maintenance Management Information and Control System (MMICS) with only 3 errors assigning Eglin the Hosts Base for other Base Wings.

Then 3207th Munitions Maintenance Unit OJT Administrator under the Group. Upon completing eight years of active duty (July 1976) join the Air Force Reserves to become an Air Reserve Technician (ART) at Duke Field with the 919 Special Operations Wing which had the AC-130A Gunships "Spectre" from Vietnam. First assigned as Maintenance OJT Administrator which I am the man that created "Phase Training" for maintenance personnel, later the Air Force adopted the program.

Then Crew Chief of tail number 56-0469 "Grim Reaper." In May 1984 through June 1995 was on Flying Status (over 5,000 hours) as an Illuminator Operator later to be changed to Loadmaster title. In "Operation Just Cause," late December 1989, was on the first aircraft to take off from Howard AFB, Panama for the attack. For our crew actions received the "Air Force Association President's Award" from Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney in Washington D.C. along with Florida's Senator Earl Hutto.

During this time frame United States Special Operations Command (USSOC) Tampa Florida and Special Operation Command (AFSOC) at Hurlbert Field begin the future working with all branches of service and their Special Forces Units including the Reserves. Meaning AC-130A Gunship Reserves where allowed to fly numerous overt / covert missions for Joint Forces in which I went, volunteered plus trained the Special Forces on how to work with a Gunship. Our counter part C-130H and "U" at Hurlbert had real world missions and didn't have time for training Special Forces.

One of the Reserve missions was reconnaissance for the Space Shuttle Launches in which I was in the second crew on station when the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up not including 8 other launches. Haiti "Uphold Democracy" and "Operation Desert Storm" I flew.

The Air Force retired the AC-130A Gunships in which I had the honor of flying tail number 55-0046 "Proud Warrior" that I flew in Operation Just Cause to Davis-Monthan,her last flight. I have over 1000 hours on the VERY FIRST C-130 ever built by Lockheed, tail number 53-3129 "First lady," now on static display at Eglin.

Lastly I moved to a new Squadron, 5th Special Operation "Combat Shadow" C-130 refueling as Flight Management Superintendent after the Air Force retired AC-130A Gunships. Their I was to build the squadron from the ground up for the Squadron Commander which had not time for Administration duties, getting aircrew and qualifying them was his main objective. The Squadron Commander and I started off with 3 people assigned.

My whole career and life has been based upon the 362 TEWS. The meaning of comrades joined together with a special aircraft for a special mission, Quite Warriors.

Received from Dennis Brinkman.

Dennis says he was a SSgt and a Crew Chief with the 362nd Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron at DaNang in 1972/73.

Says, I arrived in Da Nang in February 1972 where I was immediately introduced to the EC-47. I was assigned as the Crew Chief of one of the best flying Gooneys in the fleet. I felt lucky, to say the least. I remember chumming with fellow ground crewmen , Some names I remember are Joe Aiken, Steve Wrobeleski, and "PUDGE" From LA. I did short 18 day TDYs in Saigon, and NKP, Thailand. Had our share of rocket attacks in Da Nang as the name Rocket City depicted. Had two aircraft destroyed due to these attacks while I was in Da Nang. Held on until the "War" was officially over. I returned to the States 4 days later, 10 days short of a full 365 tour. Went on to maintain EC-135 A,G and C Model Post Attack Command and Control Aircraft (LOOKING GLASS) , KC-135A, and most fondly, the KC-135 R Model Tanker Aircraft, Stationed at both Ellsworth AFB, SD, and Grand Forks AFB, ND. I retired as a Master Sergeant in 1991 with 24 years service to my Country. If anyone would like to contact me, my e mail is below.
