Received from, David K. Crabtree, Fremont, California.

David was a crewchief with the 361st Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron at Phu Cat in 1969/70.

I was originally sent to Nha Trang, assigned to the 14 SOS in early Sept 1969. In a short while that need was fulfilled and I was sent to the 361 at Phu Cat as my base.

Added April 2, 2009. Hi James. I am SSgt David K. Crabtree, 14 SOS and 361 TEWS 69-70. First let me thank you for the list. Second, is there any way to update the information listed? I mis-spell my e-mail address. Should have been Krabtree(at)earthlink.net. Fat fingers I guess. I am starting a web site which will have its own section on my tour, pictures that we while being silly, and some of my memories. The site will also help promote my attempt at being a writer, and will aid in the documentation of my family’s history. Now, if I can only figure out how to update the darn thing. Anyway, I was most concerned about making the e-mail address correct. I also wonder if others might have the same concerns. Thanks again

David

Received from, Leon A. Beverly.

Leon says, "I was NCOIC of Security for the 6994th Security Squadron from Jun 71 to Jun 72 while Col. Grover S. McMakin was the Commander. It was the best assignment in a 20 year career with the best Commander.

I have some fond memories of the 6994th including weapons classes, weapons cleaning details, sand bagging and a monkey on the roof. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to fly on our EC47's, but seeing them on the ground was enough. I'am still amazed at how they were kept flying, and flying and flying. If I recall correctly, one member of the 6994th had been extending his tours for five years and was still flying when I left.

I turned down an assignment with USAFSS to Okinawa (had requested Germany) and was transferred out to SAC and retired from the USAF Recruiting Service in 1979. It was an interesting time for me and I can honestly say the members of the 6994th during this time were the absolute best I had the pleasure working with and I will always remember them and this time fondly.

Thanks for a great site.

December 20th, 2006. Received from, Joseph M. Harvey Lt. Col. and the son of Joseph R. Harvey, one of ours.

Mr. Wheeler,

Just wondering if you could post my father's name in your directory (www.ec47.com) and you can have emails point to joseph.harvey(at)langley.af.mil. The more I learn about the mission of the EC-47, the more it intrigues me. . .as I became an RC135 Rivet Joint EWO. I guess signal intel missions were the destiny of our family. He also attended pilot training at Greenville TX (at least he has a T6 model with Greenville TX painted on it)

Lt Col Joseph R. Harvey was a pilot and Sq Ops Officer in 360th TEWS at Ton Son Nhut from Jul 72-Dec 72, then at NKP in Thailand from Dec 72-Sep 73. I'd like to get more info about the mission during that time. He also flew C123's at Ton Son Nhut in the 19 Special Ops Sq.

He passed away in 1978 and I just found a lot of old photos that I'll try to pass to you for posting. Thanks, Joe

Received from, Anthony J. Doucette

I was a part of the Nan-Trang EC-47 flight crew from June 1968 through May 1969. I was discharged in May of 1969 and had two real close buddies while over in Nam. One was discharged in May of 1969 - Jim Hogan was his name. The other was Chief Master Sergeant Lou Stennis. They were both from New York and I am from Connecticut.

In July of 1969 Lou was home on leave and Jim, Lou and I had meet for a week-end get together. Clean fun and talk about the good old days. In September of 1969 I received a letter form Lou telling me how Jim was killed in a auto accident going to work. It was a sad day in my life to learn of his death driving a car to work when we all use to risk our life's everyday over in Nam. Jim was an Irish fellow who lived for today and the hell with tomorrow. Seems like he knew he was going to die at a young age. I was 25 at the time and I believe Jim was younger then I. I still keep in touch with Lou, who is now a retired CMSGT. Retired when Clinton became President, like so many others did. Oh well I am 62 years old now and often think of the days in Nam.

Only memories now and as the years fade away, the memories come too mind much more today then yesterday. So many young guys & gals lost their life's and I really have to say "why". We did what we had to do I guess and didn't question the reason, we just did it for our Country. Nice talking with you and keep up the site...thanks Tony
