Tom was a Pilot with the 360th Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron at Tan Son Nhut from August 8, 1971 to June 30, 1972.
Tom says, I arrived in country on 8 Aug 1971 with Steve "OT" Lagerlund after several weeks of survival training and the C-47 TTU at England AFB. For a first assignment out of UPT, the Gooney Bird was very humbling. They only taught us to use the rudder pedals for taxiing of the trainers in UPT but you lived with the rudders on the "Goon".
My entire tour was spent at the 360th but I did have some fun TDYs to CCK, Clark, Phon Phen, Bankock and NKP.
We were very lucky not to have much enemy action at TSN. As I remember we had two attacks while I was there each consisting of a grenade lobbed over the fense at the BX exactly six months apart.
I learned a lot in my first assignment, like how to bathe SUX and how to survive a game of "jungle ball". I stayed in the Reserve for 32 years, made colonel and commanded two wings. As I look back, the time with you guys at TSN was one of my best assignments..........Thanks!

Nelson says, I was assigned to Detachment 1, 6994th Security Squadron at Nha Trang and Phu Cat and served as Laison Analyst with the 330th RRC. I Was TDY to the 330th the whole time I was assigned to the Det. 1. The 330th was on Engineer Hill outside of Pleiiu until April, 1970 when they moved to Nha Trang an into the same buildings that Det. 1 6994th SS had used until they moved to Phu Cat in 1970. I used to drop in on Det. 1 for a day every 60 days to renew my TDY orders.

I AM BILL SHERMAN. I WAS A MEMBER OF THE TDY FROM CLARK AFB IN APRIL 66 WHICH SET UP THE 6994TH. UP TO THAT POINT, THE MISSION WAS HANDLED BY THE ARMY'S 3RD RRU. THEY FLEW BEAVERS (SKY KING) WITH ONE OPERATOR.
THERE WERE 8 OF US FROM CLARK, ME-A 203, A 201/203 NEIL SOLOMON, A 294, 2 SENIOR NCO'S, A LT, A CAPT, AND A MAJOR.
ALL OUR STUFF, INCLUDING A H-1 VAN AND US, WENT OVER IN A C-141. WE ARRIVED THE DAY AFTER THE FIRST REAL MORTAR ATTACK ON TAN SON NHUT. THEY PUT US IN ANY AVAILABLE BUNKS IN THE EXISTING 20 MAN HUTS.
I WENT IN A HUT WITH 19 PCS GUYS. THE WALL LOCKER I GOT WAS BRAND SHINY NEW. I GOT IN MY RACK (UPPER BUNK NATURALLY) AND NOTICED THAT THE CORRUGATED ROOF PANEL ABOVE ME WAS ALSO NEW. WHEN I ASKED MY BUNK MATE ABOUT THIS ODDITY, HE TOLD ME A MORTAR ROUND HAD COME THROUGH THE ROOF, GONE INTO THE REPLACED LOCKER AND HUNG UP INSIDE. THE GUY WHO HAD THE LOCKER HAD AN APPARENT NERVOUS BREAKDOWN ON THE SPOT.
ONE OF THE THINGS I REMEMBER IS THAT THE NEW 2 STORY 90 MAN BARRACKS WERE BEING BUILT. ANY FREE TIME WE HAD WAS SPENT PUTTING TOGETHER WALL LOCKERS FOR THE PCS TROOPS COMING IN TO THE SQUADRON.
THAT'S ABOUT ALL I CAN REMEMBER ABOUT THE 6994TH. I WAS THERE 59 DAYS APRIL TO JUNE 1966.

Bobby says, I was an RO stationed at Nha Trang in 1968/1969, Lou Stennes was my instructor RO and learned first hand about the Brew flight that crash landed at Ben Het. Later I was sent TDY to NKP to get Det 3 started, several of us were there for 6 months, until permanent party people arrived. I was 1st Sgt and NCOIC of operations and worked for Capt Wm L. Wheeler. Ray Ivey and JJ Pitzeruse were also there along with 15 or 16 more troops that I can't recall complete names just now. Det 1 moved from Nha Trang to Phu Cat while I was at NKP. After I returned to Phu Cat, I received orders to report to Osan, Korea the participate in the newly activated ARDF unit there. I've really enjoyed reading and looking at pictures of your effort on the EC-47 Web. Hopefully I can make the reunion in Colorado Springs next year. Keep em flying......BJ
