I signed your guestbook today and believe it or not I've been searching for info all day since I found your site.Every once in awhile I'd try to search for info about tail numbers for C-47's in the hope of finding my plane.This morning I typed in 362nd TEWS and there was all this info,I'm so glad I found it. I'm Roland Bruce Wintersteen and my photo is in the year book66/67 Det1 362nd TEWS Pleiku.I worked on most of the first aircraft assigned there.I was assigned to 43-48871 in 67 and worked as Crew Chief until my DEROS. I was part of the second group of guys to leave Nha Trang and go to Pleiku in 66,the Dirty Dozen guys were friends of mine,my close friend was Russell "STEVE" Terry.We were assigned to Charleston AFB before transfer to Nha Trang.We were promoted on the same day,and shared sometime on our return to the states. I went on to Dover AFB,lost touch with all the guys and flew missions as a Flight Mechanic on C-124's in Germany. I really can't remember any Flight crew members from the 362nd,but all I will say is that was a part of my life I'll not forget ,and Col. Crook was a real character.With limited supply lines you wouldn't believe how things got done before we got Americanized. I'm going to go through my things and if I find photos that I know I have I'll scan them and send them to you.As a ground crew member I can remember making the plane ready for it's mission, seeing the crew off,and waiting for their return home in one piece and all safe. Gerald was a Pilot with the 360th Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron at Tan Son Nhut from June 1966 to June 1967 (another of the very early guys). What a treat to see and read about the EC-47. I was LTC Jack Crook's copilot on the ferry flight and on 30 missions in country. I got my own crew and Rusty Elder was my copilot. Flew about 120 missions total. When I came back to the states I was a T-37 instructor and flight commander. Went Bootstrap and got a B.S. from the Univ Nebraska. Became a Maintainance Officer and commanded the FMS at Craig AFB. Went to Indonesia with the USDLG in 71 and 72 as the AF division commander. Flew the Goon there and P-51's,SA-16's,and C-130's. Spent some time on the ATC IG and ATC LG.Went to AWC and was the FMS commander RF-4C's at Bergstrom AFB. Retired as a LTC in Jun 1979.Flew C-47's in Lee County Fla for Mosquito Control.
