Frank says he was a 1Lt assigned to the 361st Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron as a Pilot. He arrived at NKP, Thailand in August of 1973. Flew out of there and Ubon through May 1974, flew a total of 75 missions. Frank was aboard on of the last missions to fly, on May 15th, 1974. I think I have some pictures of the last days missions myself, at least the crew that I was on, which I believe was the second to last to land that day. I remember Skeeter and that moment taxiing in with his sombrero and the smoke flare. Frank |

Thanks, Jerry

Just a note to say thanks for the site, I had completely forgotten about the "good old Days" in that aircraft. I was in the 6994th from September of 67 until July of 68 and flew as a 292 backender. I can still remember some of the aircraft, Balls 9, Patches, Arkansas razorback, we really had great nose art. I can also remember that black day, the morning after TET when the commander of the 6994th sent me and and another operator to the flightline to gather info for a "Battle Damage Assessment Report" for HQ USAFSS. I think that out of 17 or so aircraft we sustained major damage to 75% of the airframes. What really got my attention, was the plane parked on the open flightline with a Russian 122 rocket still sticking through the wing. I really enjoyed my time with "Antique Airlines" and I moved from there to Germany to fly in the EC-130's. I saw mention of this site in the DAV magazine and the EC-47 hit me between the eyes, I couldn't wait to visit. I will be back and will share what I can remember with you. Received from, Stephen 'Steve' Linen, Seattle, Washington.
Steve says he was with the 6994TH SS from 6/73 to 6/74 in MAINTENANCE / ECM NKP & UBON. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOUR SITE FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. I FLEW MAINTENANCE ON THE EC-47'S, FIRST OUT OF NKP AND THEN I WAS TRANSFERRED DOWN TO UBON. I WAS ON ONE OF THE CREWS FOR THE LAST MISSION, MAY 15, 1974, FLYING ON 570. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND I WAS NOT LISTED ON THE 6994TH ROSTER. IS THAT A DEFINIATIVE LISTING??? ANYWAY, I REALLY ENJOY YOUR SITE AND IT BRINGS BACK SOME FOND MEMORIES. IT'S HARD TO REMEMBER THE NAMES OF ALL THOSE GUYS FROM THE PAST, BUT I DEFINITELY REMEMBER STAN POYAS AND STAN RAMSEY. STAN RAMSEY WAS ALWAYS THE ONE TO GIVE ME MY STAN EVAL WHILE AT THE 6990TH. HE WAS ALSO THE ONE TO WITNESS MY POURING OF BEER OVER THE SQUADRON COMMANDERS HEAD, JUST AS THE COMMANDER HAD ARRIVED AT THE PICNIC FROM HIS FINAL EC-47 FLIGHT ON THE MAY 15TH. I GUESS THE CHAMPAIGN THEY GAVE US WHEN WE LANDED HAD ALREADY GONE TO MY HEAD. ANYWAY, I SEE THAT STAN IS GONE NOW. I'M SORRY TO LEARN OF HIS DEATH. STAN POYAS AND I WERE FRIENDS, AND WE HUNG AROUND TOGETHER. THE LAST I SAW OF STAN, HE WAS LEAVING TO BACK TO NKP AND OVERSEE THE DISMANTLING OF THE PLANES. THAT REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER PERSON. WAYNE OPPERMAN WAS WITH STAN, GOING BACK TO NKP. WELL, THANKS FOR LISTENING AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT WEB SITE. |
Received from, Albert J. Adams, Chicopee, Mass.
Albert J. Adams, ret TSgt was in the Nam in 69-70 at Pleiku Danang flying with USAFSS as a back end crew supervisor, flew with Connors & Erhorn and still think of them both often, it was a terrible loss to us all, especially their families. We had such a great record with so few losses, but as you know, any loss is one too many. I run a small Insurance Agency, WEB page aladamsinsurance.tripod.com and stumpjumper.tmalife.com Over 20 years I was in Scotland, England, Italy, Taiwan, The Nam, TDY'S to Crete, Germany, Phillipines,. Okinawa, one PCS in San Antonio for less than a year prior to going to the Nam & some TDY's @ NSA. Now you know the "Rest of the Story". |

Received from, Hal Arner, Alburquerque, New Mexico.
Hal was a Navigator with the 361st Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron at Nha Trang from August 1966 to August 1967. Stumbled across the website address in the Reunions section of DAV Magazine. I was in the first Phyliss Ann class and was one of the navigators on the fourth aircraft to leave Grenier Field although many crews passed us as we waited for an engine in Anchorage. I, too, went to Nha Trang along with the first group. I flew with Lt. Col. Casey and Hugh Langford until Casey got promoted and became Ops. Officer. Then I flew with Lt. Col. Jake Goolsby and Don Waitt for the remainder of my tour. I have lost track of EVERYBODY except Dick Kunz and saw only Col. Casey's name and your crew and notes on the roster. Bob Harris and I were very good friends but we never kept in touch after we returned I retired from AF here in Albuquerque as a Lt. Col. and became "fully retarded" in '97. Want to plod through the remainder of the website so will sign off for now. Hal's Email Address is: halarner (at) msn.com |
