Hi JC,
I read the article about the EC-47 that belonged to the AFCS. Prior to 1968
I was in the 1867th Facilities Checking Sqdn (AFCS) at Clark AB, Philippines.
I am pretty sure that aircraft was one of ours. The only tail number I can
remember is "Flight Check 029". That was our call sign when in Nam. We rotated
every 2 weeks out of Phan Rang, RVN. I have a 8x10 photo of the plane that was
almost hit by a mortar on one of my TDYs. The mortar hit approx 50' in front
of the aircraft. Note the cowling removed from # 2 engine had to change the
prop and where the mortar hit in the bottom of the picture. We were more
suceptible to ground fire than the Ec-47N & Ps. To check a TACAN we flew 1500
ft AGL around the TACAN antenna.
I better go now....see-ya in Dayton.
