TO: The Members of the 361st TEWS

The mission of the 361st Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron is an exacting and a demanding one. When we reflect upon some of the recent major military campaigns and actions in Vietnam, the importance of out mission comes sharply into focus. The part that we played in the Battle of Dak To, the TET offensive, and Market Times of last February resulted in many sincere and laudatory comments from the Army, the Navy, and other military forces in Southeast Asia. Because our activities cannot be publicized, these comments are particularly gratifying to us. When we can sit back and speculate on what we are doing, we can each visualize the lives that we have saved and are saving.

As I said, our task is an ardous one. The successful completion of our mission requires the fullest contribution fro every individual. When we think of supply and maintenance problems inherent in a Southeast Asia operation, and considering the monsoons of Vietnam, the fact that we have consistently flown more than 98 percent of our fragged combat time adds up to an outstanding job by a squadron of dedicated and mission oriented people.

We may sum up out time in Vietnam pretty well by saying the days were long but the weeks were short. Those major milestones that we looked forward to - the R7R to Hawaii, the two-digit point, - arrived and then faded into memories. But as the time passed we realized more and more what a wonderful group of people made up the 361st TEWS. This is, without a doubt, the finest organization I have ever known. I consider it an honor and a privilege to have been associated with each of you during this last year.
