This photo taken at the first villa we rented. Me on the
left and Cavin. We moved very shortly as we heard a lot of
VC came in to that area of town for R&R. We saw enough walk
by with bandages = wrapped around their heads to convince us.
This is our maid washing clothes. An interesting story, we felt sorry for her having to squat down and iron clothes on a blanket on the floor. So we bought heran ironing board. The next time we came home and she was ironing, there was the ironing board, legs folded up laying flat on the floor and she was squatting down ironing.
This should be a sight familiar to all. John had a battery powered TV on which we watched the few hours in the evening that the base broadcast. Any time we left the front gate open to get fresh air, we had an instant audience within 10 minutes. I'm sure you remember the casual attire we sat around in.

This picture brings back special feelings every time I look at it. This was taken in front of our Villa on Lu Gia (the street running to the back gate of the base). You get a clear picture of the mountain. I remember when I sat in the evening taping a letter, when they launched mortar attacks on the base. Many times their aim wasn't too good and they overshot the base and impacted around us. No place to hide, just wandered if one of them had your name on it.
