Les Layman's 1969 Sendoff.

Lester 'Les' Layman was the First, First Sergeant of the 360th TEWS, 1966/67.

This photo was taken at the Bien Hoa RVN airfield on my last day - July 1969 about 30 minutes prior to boarding the "Freedom Bird" culminating 33 months of my Vietnam vacation. Most of my outfit (I was First Sergeant of the 823rd "Red Horse") were there (about 400 troops) and the Combat Team of 50 armed men formed a walk way to the Continental 707 at "Present Arms".
I was second to board as an Army Brigadier General had been driven to the airplane about 10 minutes earlier and seen off by his driver. Upon entering the plane, the stewardesses on board gave me hugs and the General looked at me and said "Who the hell are you?" What a send off!!
