41 People Photos of 6994th at TSN 1968 & NKP 1971/72 by: Donald Edgcomb

1968/TSN an EC-47, with 6994th Security Squadron personnel as the backend crew, on the flight line being readied for action. Being as I can never remember being on the flight line this had to have been taken by someone else.

1968/TSN the 7th Air Force Hq comples located on Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon. This was really not to large of a complex either.

1968/TSN another view of the sign in front of the 7th Air Force Hq.

1968/TSN the 6994th Security Squadron which was located within the 7th Air Force Hq. complex. Very primitive working condtions, think I was in the area no more than three or four times during my 18 months in-country. The vehicle was used to transport the guys from the unit or barracks and the flight line.

1968/Saigon the entrance to the Vietnamese ARVN Joint General Staff (JGS) Hq. This vast complex was located not that far from the main entrance to TSN Air Base. During the Tet Offensive, parts of the complex were over-run by the VC.

1968/TSN ARVN JGS this building was the operational center for the joint US Army/Air Force ACC unit and was located within the ARVN/JGS complex. (ACC is either Airborne Control and Command or something very similar in name.) ACC would assign locations and times for both Army Security Agenca (ASA) and the 6994th, the EC-47 aircraft to operate. I was assigned to this unit for my two tours in Vietnam while at the 6994th. We did not get over-run during the Tet offensive but it was possible.

1968/TSN before the Tet offensive we were on a base beautification program. Then the Tet attacks began and we work our ten hours then filled sand bags. Those bags only lasted so long, then due to the rain and sun they rotted out

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb (center) and the other members of the 6994th out filling and stacking sand bags. Uniform of the day, casual.

1968/TSN cook-out with beer in front of one of our barracks. That is Gary sitting on the sidewalk.

1968/TSN more of the guys at the cook-out. In those days we did not have air conditioners in the barracks so both the ground troops and airborne buys lived and partied together. Later, the airborne guys got air conditioned living conditions while the ground troops sweated.

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb outside of one of the chow halls. The pallets were stacked for blast protection from rockets during the Tet offensive.

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb wearing my flack jacket and 'tin pot' in my 'space' in the barracks. The red sweat shirt has a dancing rabbit along with the words "Get the Rabbit Habit" which was a college/GI bar here in San Antonio. There is an insurance building on the property row.

1968/TSN Gene W. Morehead cooking up some steaks. Gene was a 292X1 (airborne) and we all partied a hell of a lot while assigned to the unit.

1968/TSN Milton (Buddy) Reed (on the left) and Ronald W. Whiteside (on the right) in the barracks. I'm a little fuzzy what Buddy did but Ron was a 292X1 (airborne)

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb in the barracks gettin' smashed while playing a game of cards. That was my mug but only the gods know where it is today.

1968/TSN some of the guys from the unit (Ronald W. Whiteside on the left) and sorry but the other's names slip my mind.

1968/TSN maybe someone will know who this guy is. One of the group that played cards or monopoly in our area.

1968/TSN more of the grou. Ronald S. Curtis, is the one giving the finger and that is Dale D. Peterson with the handful of cards. Both 292X1's (airborne) but not sure of the names of all the others. I should know them but never wrote the names down.

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb peaking around the corner, Dale D. Peterson with the mug of beer in front, Ronald S. Curtis drinking from the bottle of booze. I was a 202X0 while Dale and Ron were 292X1's.

1968/TSN Some more of the group sitting around. I think both of these guys were 292X1's and one was named Steve...

1968/TSN Don Edgcome in our area of the barracks. Either I must have been enroute to or from the BX/commissary which was located downtown Saigon. Otherwise I would not have a weapon (the M-16). This had to be right after the Tet offensive and to reach the commissary we had to drive through Cholon which had a very large Chinese population. The Vietnamese Air Force bombed the hell out of Cholon to drive out the VC during Tet.

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb over at Davis Station where the Army Security Abency guys were housed. We had barracks while they had hoochs but their NCO club was closer and it served (frozen) pizza!

1968/TSN Don Edgcomb in the center still at Davis Station but after having a few drinks. These are two army guys I worked with at the ACC operations.

1971/NKP Ronnie Young who I believe was a 292X1 (airborne). This was Det. 3, 6994th Security Squadron.

1971/NKP An EC-47 airborne on a mission out of NKP.

1971/Da Nang the 6924th Security Squadron. I was assigned to Det. 3, 6994th and some how got shanghai'd from NKP to Da Nang. Ended up having to return by way of Saigon then Bangkok, which sounds great but I only had one uniform (a flight suit) for my entire stay.

1971/TSN by this time the airborne crew members were living in air conditioned barracks. This is Mike Satzer who, I believe was a 292X1. Note the posters on the wall. You can just see that the support for the war has ended and the Americans were beginning to find ways to withdraw.

1972/NKP an EC-47 on the flight line waiting for a mission.

1972/NKP one of our pilots and a member of the ground crew discussing the aircraft.

1972/NKP Camp Tarbox, named after the commander of the unit - Colonel Tarbox.

1972/NKP Task Force Alfa (TFA) complex. Besides being hugh it was a computer radio center which picked-up, interpreted, and displayed data reported from air-laid acustic sensors seeded in Laos. The 6994th had several trailers in this complex and if I did not have an airborne mission that is where I worked (in the trailers that is).

1972/NKP Craig Rollins coming out of the Det. 3, 6994th complex gate house.

1972/NKP Don Edgcomb on the other side of the gate house with the unit sign.

1972/NKP Don Edgcomb in the background, sorry I can not remember the guy in the foreground.

1972/NKP Two Jolly Green Giant crew members. I seem to remember that one of their names was Doug. These guys lived in one fourth of our H style hooch. We had our own bar in part of the building.

Same description as 35 above.

1972/NKP Several members of Det. 3, 6994th triming their hair.

1972/NKP Song-Kran (water festival) where everyone gets soaked. Please read the article from the NKP newspaper concerning this event. Click here to read the article.

Same description as 38 above.

1972/NKP Jay who, I believe was a 292X1 (airborne) from Det. 3.

1972/NKP dancing at the NCO Club then off downtown....
