I just read this message about a Lt Almquist and his zipper being hit by a round. I am probably the Lt. Almquist that is being referred to but I was not the person that had his zipper hit. I flew perhaps a dozen missions but our aircraft was never hit to the best of my knowledge. Certainly I was never grazed as described.
I had heard this story while I was with the 6994th but supposedly the person hit was a navigator.
This may be an example of how a good story gets distorted as it is told and retold..
